The COVID-19 webinar between Taipei Veterans General Hospital(TVGH) and City Children’s Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, was organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).

During the conference, Chief Hung Miao-Chiu, Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease of TVGH, first shared Taiwan experiences in COVID-19. The age distribution of confirmed cases showed that most of cases are aged 20-29, and less than 10 cases are under age 20. The COVID-19 symptoms in children are usually include fever, cough, and headache which is milder than the symptoms in adults. Chief Hung also mentioned the definition of confirmed case, specimen collection, and diagnostic tests in Taiwan.

Dr. Hsiao Yi-Han, Division of General Chest Medicine of TVGH, then shared experiences in an critically ill case. “Chest CT is the GOLD standard to monitor disease status, yet could be risky for critically ill patients with COVID-19 ARDS” Dr. Hsiao said. The usefulness of lung ultrasound (LUS) is non-invasive, can provide real-time information for the doctors, and most importantly, avoiding transferring patients out of ICU prevents SARS-CoV2 from spreading. After our team gave this critically ill patient recruitment maneuver (RM) and monitored the changes with LUS, this patient’s health condition gradually improved day by day, and finally, successfully recovered.
