Rhinoplasty
Overview
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to improve cosmetic appearance and/or to restore patency of nasal passage.
Features Summary
Rhinoplasty can modify the profile of the external nose, which is made up of the nasal dorsum, nasal tip, and nasal ala. Therefore, the procedure can correct the following cosmetic and functional flaws:
・Crooked nose
・Dorsal hump
・Saddle nose
・Short nose
・Imperfect nasal tip
・Wide nasal ala
・Alar retraction
・Nasal obstruction
Procedure
The rhinoplasty is generally via an open approach and is assisted by endoscopy. The procedure begins with an incision made at the nasal columella. After the skin envelope is elevated, the deviated septum/tip can be corrected. Autologous (such as septal cartilage, ear cartilage, or costal cartilage) and/or artificial materials can be implanted to support the nasal architecture and to improve the appearance of the nose.
Notification
A pre-operative consultation is important. Adequate mutual communication is one of the keys to success.
After the surgery, the nose may swell for up to 2-4 weeks. The optimal outcome can be observed in approximately 3 months.
