St. Kitts and Nevis Health Permanent Secretary Visits Taipei Veterans General Hospital to Explore Collaborative Healthcare Opportunities

Taipei, Taiwan – November 8, 2024

Mr. Curtis Alden Martin, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health & Social Security of St. Kitts and Nevis, visited Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH) to explore potential collaboration opportunities. His tour included the Emergency, Intensive Care, Radiology, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Pediatrics, and Holistic and Multidisciplinary Medicine departments.

Mr. Martin, who was welcomed by Prof. Chin-Su Liu, Director of TVGH’s International Medical Service Center, expressed his admiration for the hospital’s advanced facilities and the professionalism of its staff. “I look forward to expanding our cooperation in areas like chronic disease treatment and other critical healthcare initiatives,” he said.

Mr. Martin’s visit follows his participation in the 2024 Global Health and Welfare Forum in Taiwan, where he took on a key role in advancing public health programs in St. Kitts and Nevis. His trip aims to deepen ties between the two nations in healthcare and strengthen medical services.

Since 2017, TVGH has partnered with St. Kitts and Nevis through TaiwanICDF on projects addressing chronic kidney disease, metabolic syndrome, and mental health. In March 2024, TVGH also worked with the U.S. Air Force’s Lesser Antilles Medical Assistance Team (LAMAT) to support the region’s healthcare needs.

“We’re committed to continuing this fruitful partnership to improve healthcare in both nations,” said Prof. Liu. “Our collaboration demonstrates Taiwan’s dedication to global health and medical diplomacy.”
