St. Kitts and Nevis Health Officials Visit Taipei Veterans General Hospital to Promote Mental Health Services Enhancement Project

Taipei, Taiwan – February 11, 2025 – St. Kitts and Nevis Health Services Administrator and Deputy Registrar General Ms. Shelisa Martin Clarke and oncologist Dr. Merisa Grant-Tate visited Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH) on February 10 to enhance the mental healthcare services at St. Kitts and Nevis. During their visit, they toured the Department of Psychiatry's acute ward, adult day care ward, adolescent sunflower day care ward, and the Emotion Precision Medicine Center. They were deeply impressed by the comprehensive and advanced mental health care provided by TVGH and expressed their hope to collaborate with the hospital to provide better mental health care for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, deepen the medical partnership, and build a long-term friendship.

Hospital Deputy Superintendent Dr. Lee Wui-Chiang (李偉強) stated that over the past decade, TVGH has established a solid partnership with St. Kitts and Nevis in the areas of chronic kidney disease and metabolic diseases. Starting from September 2024, the collaboration has expanded to the field of mental health, assisting St. Kitts and Nevis in promoting the "Mental Health Services Enhancement Project." TVGH has extensive experience in the field of psychiatry, covering advanced treatments, acute and chronic mental illness management, and comprehensive services such as day care. The hospital also has several physician-scientists ranked in the top 2% in the world. Through this exchange, TVGH will help train more mental health care professionals in St. Kitts and Nevis and provide valuable references for the country's mental health policies.

Ms. Shelisa Martin Clark, Administrator and Deputy Registrar General of St. Kitts and Nevis Health Services, holds a Master of International Public Health (IMPH) from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a Bachelor of Health Services Management. She specializes in public health planning, data management, and administration, with extensive experience in policy planning and management. Dr. Merisa Grant Tate is an oncologist who is responsible for the development of mental health policies in St. Kitts and Nevis and is a key expert cultivated by the Ministry of Health.

This visit marks an important step toward strengthening international cooperation in mental health care and underscores TVGH's commitment to advancing global health partnerships.
