Taipei Veterans General Hospital Forges Stronger Healthcare Bonds in Indonesia During Taiwan Trade Mission
JAKARTA, Indonesia – May 23, 2025 – Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH) today announced the successful conclusion of a strategic visit to Indonesia, reinforcing its commitment to international healthcare collaboration under Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy. The visit, from May 18-23, saw TVGH solidify existing partnerships and establish new alliances with leading Indonesian healthcare institutions.
A highlight of the mission was the signing of key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with two prominent Indonesian healthcare providers: the renewal of a long-standing partnership with RSCM Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Indonesia’s top-ranked public hospital, and a new collaboration with DKH Hospitals Group, a rapidly expanding private hospital system. These agreements mark a significant step in enhancing medical cooperation and knowledge exchange between Taiwan and Indonesia.
The activities were part of TVGH's participation in the Taiwan Trade Mission, organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). The Mission provided a vital platform for engaging in direct talks and matching sessions with potential Indonesian partners. This initiative is part of TAITRA's annual efforts to foster cooperation and promote Taiwan's medical expertise in the Indonesian market.
Strengthening a Valued Partnership with RSCM Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital
The renewed MoU with RSCM Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital builds upon a successful collaboration initiated in 2017, which has notably facilitated doctor exchange programs, particularly in orthopedics. The extension today, represented by an MOU signed on May 22, aims to broaden cooperation into additional clinical areas.
Professor Wui-Chiang Lee, Vice Superintendent of TVGH, reciprocated: "Reaffirming our longstanding partnership underscores our dedication to collaboration. We are proud of our past efforts, including the advanced orthopedic training provided to RSCM doctors in Taipei, spearheaded by our esteemed Superintendent Wei-Ming Chen. We value the contributions of the five doctors recently trained and eagerly anticipate further sharing our expertise."
RSCM, recognized as Indonesia’s leading public hospital with 1,000 beds and ranked 36th globally among "Most Reputable Academic Medical Centers" by Brand Finance in 2023, is celebrated for its excellence in medical services.
New Opportunities with DKH Hospitals Group
The same day, TVGH delegation also engaged warmly with DKH Hospitals Group, a private hospital system based in Bogor, West Java. Mr. Iqbal Rahim Wilis, founder, and Mr. Satria Wilis, CEO of DKH – who previously visited Taipei Veterans General Hospital– conveyed their admiration for Taiwan’s medical innovations and shared vision for ESG principles. Discussions explored various fields, including hospital management systems, personnel development, and educational training, inspiring DKH's vision for their "own ideal hospital."
Established in 2020, DKH Hospital Group operates five hospitals in West Java, focusing on universal healthcare for lower-income populations. Recently listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange in early May, DKH aims to enhance its strategic brand presence.
Broadening Taiwan's Healthcare Footprint in Southeast Asia
Earlier in the trip, the TVGH team conducted visits to other prominent Indonesian health institutions, including Bunda Group Hospital (with leading specialty in obstetrics and gynecology), Harapan Kita Hospital (a leading national cardiovascular center), Atma Jaya Hospital (a well-regarded general hospital emphasizing medical education), Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri and especially, Dharmais Cancer Hospital (Indonesia's premier dedicated cancer treatment facility).
Professor Chin-Su Liu, Director of the International Medical Service Center at TVGH, underscored the strategic importance of these initiatives. "Following our impactful programs in Vietnam, Indonesia has emerged as a key focus market for TVGH in Southeast Asia. We observe a growing interest from Indonesian partners seeking Taiwan's advanced healthcare expertise. We are keen to replicate the positive outcomes achieved in Vietnam, believing these collaborations will not only benefit both regions' healthcare systems but also foster stronger people-to-people connections."
This mission highlights Taipei Veterans General Hospital’s proactive role in promoting international healthcare exchange and its dedication to advancing medical care within the framework of Taiwan's New Southbound Policy, which encourages collaborations with specific target countries. TVGH has successfully partnered with Vietnam, establishing over 30 MoUs and actively conducting various programs. To date, TVGH has also forged MoUs with three hospitals in Indonesia, while maintaining close ties with others in specialized fields, such as cardiovascular care.
