Taiwan once again demonstrated its medical expertise, in this case by successfully treating the Maori King Tuheitia's dysentery. Due to the King’s gratefulness to the hospital for the medical care that he had received, the Maori Culture Delegation led by Craig Muntz visited the hospital on July 27th and performed the Maori dance, "Kapa Haka," for the hospital staff and patients.
Mr. Muntz said that the trip to Taipei Veterans General Hospital was done on behalf of King Tuheitia to express his gratitude to the hospital. He came to the hospital to seek medical treatment for dysentery that has plagued him for many years and the medical team was able to successfully treat him. He was very much moved and impressed with the excellent medical treatment and friendly service that he received. The King speaks highly of the hospital to his officials and tribespeople and has become a well-known story among the Maori people. King Tuheitia also attended the opening ceremony of the third outpatient building of the hospital on September 20, 2017, which shows that he has a deep affection for the hospital and has many friends within the institution.
The delegation was personally welcomed by hospital superintendent Prof. Deh-Ming Chang where there were report presentations, as well as talks and exchanges between the two countries. The delegation also visited the various hospital departments to understand the advanced equipment, quality environment, and medical management of the hospital where Mr. Muntz showed much interest and had high praise for the advanced facilities. He conveyed the King's intentions to care for his friends in Taiwan.
