The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew and his esteemed delegation visited the Taipei Veterans General Hospital(Taipei VGH) on November 10, 2022.
The Superintendent of Taipei VGH Wei-Ming Chen(陳威明院長) warmly welcomed Prime Minister Drew and his esteemed delegation to visit the Taipei VGH, and accompanied by the Superintendent of Taipei VGH Chen visited Hemodialysis Center, Heavy Ion Therapy Center, and the TVGH’s six trainees from Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
The Prime Minister Terrance Drew and his Ministry of Foreign Affairs Denzil Douglas both have physician backgrounds, and also TVGH's advanced equipment and high-quality medical care were highly praised by Drew and Douglas .

The Superintendent of Taipei VGH Wei-Ming Chen(陳威明院長) said, since 2017, Taipei VGH and International Cooperation and Development Fund(TaiwanICDF) have begun to build and strengthen for the prevention and treatment systems for Metabolic Chronic Diseases in St. Kitts and Nevis. During the past 5 years, Taipei VGH has sent 7 colleagues, including 5 doctors and 2 nurses to share the Taiwan’s successful experiences of the prevention and treatment for Chronic Kidney Diseases(CKD) in St. Kitts and Nevis, and 15 students from St. Kitts and Nevis have completed 4 to 6 weeks of professional medical care training in Taipei VGH. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, students adopted distance-learning, and the field of the prevention and treatment for chronic kidney disease expanded to the early diagnosis and treatment for diabetes and hypertension. Superintendent Chen explained that the 6 trainees from St. Kitts and Nevis who currently trained in Taipei VGH, including 2 doctors, 3 nurses and 1 nutritionist, will study in Division of Nephrology, Division of Metabolism and Division of Family Medicine during the 6 weeks training, and will assist St. Kitts and Nevis to build a complete prevention and treatment systems for CKD after they return back to their home country.
The Prime Minister Drew was very cheerful to have an opportunity to visited Taipei VGH, especially visited the most advanced heavy ion therapy facility in the world. Hopes to deepen the friendship through medical exchanges between two countries, and thanks to Taipei VGH. Moreover, encouraging the TVGH's six trainees from St. Kitts and Nevis to seize the opportunities to study in a world-class medical center, bring the valuable experiences and the expertise in kidney disease care back to St. Kitts and Nevis and benefit people.
