Myositis Panel
Overview
Idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) is a heterogeneous group of myositis, characterised by chronic muscle weakness, cutaneous features, different extra-muscular manifestations and circulating autoantibodies) . Myositis-specific autoantibodies panel tests are positive in 45 to 85 percent of patients.
Features
Myositis Panel is useful for differential evaluation of polymyositis, dermatomyositis, necrotizing autoimmune myopathy, or overlap syndromes.
Procedure
It is a simple blood test that is used to identify certain specific antibodies (Ig formed against skeletal muscles in a patient with autoimmune myositis.
Notification
These tests are positive in 45 to 85 percent of patients; thus, a negative myositis panel does not rule out a diagnosis of IIM. Experts use myositis autoantibody panels to determine what particular myositis phenotype may best fit the patient rather than to make a diagnosis of myositis.
