Hello! We are the pediatric orthopedic scoliosis medical team, and we understand that you may feel confused or anxious about the medical journey for early-onset scoliosis. To help you better understand the treatment process, we have prepared the following educational material to provide you with a comprehensive guide.
Medical Journey for Early-Onset Scoliosis Patients(Figue 1)
Outpatient Visit:
When you suspect that you or your child may have scoliosis, we recommend visiting the pediatric orthopedic outpatient clinic for professional diagnosis and treatment. Our clinic features a multidisciplinary team, including pediatric orthopedics, rehabilitation medicine, and pediatric neurosurgery, to provide detailed treatment recommendations from various perspectives.
Hospitalization Preparation:
If the doctor recommends hospitalization for treatment, the admission date will be scheduled. Please proceed to the admissions office on the first floor of the Main Building at the designated time.
Medical Procedures:
After admission, we will arrange relevant examinations, including blood tests, urine tests, lung function tests, and neurological assessments. Additionally, consultations with anesthesiology, rehabilitation medicine, and nutritionists will be scheduled to provide a comprehensive treatment plan.
Preoperative Instructions:
Before surgery, the attending physician will conduct a preoperative briefing session. The briefing will include an overview of the preoperative examination results, explanation of the surgical procedure and associated risks, as well as postoperative care instructions. If your relatives are unable to be physically present, we can arrange video conferences to overcome time and space barriers and improve communication efficiency.
Nursing Guidance during Hospitalization:
During your hospital stay, we will provide the following nursing guidance: preoperative nursing instructions, documentation of physical appearance and photographs, skin preparation and back brushing, postoperative care instructions, proper guidance for getting in and out of bed, correct application and removal of braces, and wound care.
Discharge Preparation Services:
Before your discharge, we will provide relevant care instructions, including post-discharge care guidance, wound care, brace usage, maintaining nutritional records, ongoing rehabilitation exercises, and introduce you to information about the Taiwan Scoliosis Care Association.
Follow-up after Discharge:
Depending on your needs, we will provide regular outpatient follow-ups, telephone follow-ups, and dedicated ward hotlines to ensure a smooth recovery process.
Our medical team not only focuses on the physical well-being of these children but also recognizes their psychological needs. We strive to improve the hospitalization experience, enhance the quality of care, and help them face their illness with courage.

門診就醫：
當您發現自己或您的孩子可能患有脊柱側彎時，我們建議您前往兒童骨科門診尋求專業的診療。我們的門診特色是多專科團隊共同看診，包括兒童骨科、復健科和小兒神經外科，以便提供多方面詳細的治療建議。

住院準備：
如果醫生建議您住院治療，將會與您約定住院日期。請您在約定的時間前往中正1樓辦理住院手續。
醫療處置：
住院後，我們將安排相關的檢查，包括血液、尿液、肺功能和神經功能檢查。此外，還會邀請麻醉科醫生、復健科醫生和營養師參與診療，以提供全面的治療方案。
手術前說明：在手術前，主治醫生將舉行術前說明會。說明內容包括術前檢查結果綜合說明、手術流程及風險說明，以及手術後的照護指南。如果您的親屬無法親自到院，我們也可以透過家庭視訊會議的方式與他們溝通，解決時間和空間上的障礙，提高溝通的效率。
住院期間的護理指導：在住院期間，我們將提供以下護理指導：手術前的護理指導、身體外觀及照相記錄、皮膚準備和刷背、手術後的護理指導、正確的上下床指導、正確的穿脫背架，以及傷口的照護。
出院準備服務：在您出院前，我們將提供相關的照護指導，包括返家後的照護指導、傷口照護、背架的使用、持續營養紀錄、持續復健運動，並向您介紹台灣脊柱側彎關懷協會的資訊。
出院後的追蹤：根據您的需求，我們將提供門診定期追蹤、電訪追蹤和病房專線服務，以確保您的康復進展順利。
我們的醫療團隊不僅關注病童的生理健康，同時也重視他們在心理層面上的需求。我們致力於改善病童的住院體驗，提高照護品質，幫助他們勇敢地面對疾病。
